Adults Inspection  3/2/2010

A few words from Maureen Worby, Chair of the NHS Barking and Dagenham Board and Chair of the Health and Wellbeing BoardMaureen Worby

We want Barking and Dagenham to be a place where people are healthier and happier, and by working together in partnership, we can help achieve this.  By taking a coordinated approach to making sure we have world-class health services, we can radically improve the quality of life of local people.
We’re producing a joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy, which identifies the areas of health and wellbeing we need to focus on, and the ten priorities for the strategy.  There are plenty of challenges ahead, but together we can make a real difference, and I look forward to continuing to work in partnership to make this happen.

What are we talking about?

Inspection of Adult Social Care

19 July sees the start of an inspection of the borough's adult social care services.  This will be of interest to all partners.  Click here for more information about this important test of how well we are performing in supporting some of our most vulnerable residents.

Meeting - 03/02/2010

Health and Wellbeing Strategy

The February Board discussed the Health and Wellbeing Strategy.  This builds on the Community Strategy, Commissioning Strategic Plan, and Local Area Agreement, and focuses on those areas of health and well being that require joint action to secure progress and success.  There were updates on each of the ten priorities for the Strategy, which reflect the current local risk factors that most impact on health inequalities in terms of physical and mental health and opportunities for achieving life potential and independence.

For each of the ten priorities there has been a review of current targets/goals to assess the scale of ambition; assessment of current effort and strategy for achieving the goals with likelihood of success; re-statement of recommended changes to the goals to ensure the most ambitious impact on health inequalities locally; recommendations on the overall strategy and actions to achieve goals over the 3 year period 2010-13 with more precise action for year one (with plans making clear how partners will work together actively to achieve critical impact).  Time-limited work has been commissioned in respect of the priorities, with the aim of ensuring that project plans for delivery are in place; that there is effective joint intelligence support; and that key linkages are made with other LSP Boards.  Leadership and management arrangements have been put in place, and these will support the strategy as it moves into its final planning and implementation phases.
