Our Award-Winning Loo

Another building of significance has been noted in the borough.  After the awards for public space won by the Town Square in Barking (including that prestigious European Prize a year or two ago), it's now Dagenham's turn.  The building may be modest, but it's definitely been noticed...

RIBA says...
The award-winning buildings range from a small circular loo for bus drivers in London to the Neues Museum in Berlin, from a zero-carbon house to the energy substation for the 2012 Olympics.

This bus drivers' loo and rest facility has won an award from the Royal Institute of British Architects.  Designed by Julian Cowie Architects, you'll find it down Chequers Lane, near the Dagenham Dock station.

They even give us a nod in their press release, and it's interesting to note a few other buildings not so very far away in our neighbouring boroughs, such as that electricity substation for the Olympic park.

Importance

Awards such as these are an important plank in our work to build pride in the borough and make it a destination of choice for those looking to invest or set up business.  With the regeneration that is set for the south of the borough, there will be plenty of other opportunities to celebrate new buildings to sit alongside our existing icons, such as Dagenham's Civic Centre, Barking's Town Square and the Abbey.
