Stephen Langford is new NHS chief executive

Stephen Langford has been appointed Chief Executive of NHS Barking and Dagenham. The appointment was announced on Wednesday 9 February by NHS Barking and Dagenham Chair Maureen Worby. Stephen has been interim chief executive of the organisation since July 2008.
NHS Barking and Dagenham is responsible for improving the health and well-being of local people, and making sure people who live in Barking and Dagenham can get the health care they need.
Maureen Worby said: “It’s a tribute to the reputation of NHS Barking and Dagenham that we attracted a number of high quality applications, but Stephen’s stood out. He’s been outstanding in his interim role, so I am delighted he is joining us as an employee. We can now continue to work together to help make Barking and Dagenham a place where people are healthier and happier”.
Stephen Langford said: “I feel privileged to be leading an organisation that can make such difference to people’s lives. Having been interim chief executive for the last 17 months has made me realise how important this role is, supporting local people to improve their health and make sure their needs are met.
“We’ve set ourselves challenging targets, especially in the area of health improvement –like supporting more people to give up smoking and making sure children get the vaccinations they need, so there are exciting times ahead as we work to meet these and make sure we deliver world-class health services in Barking and Dagenham”.
