International Day of Disabled People 2011

A Review of the Day

On the 2nd December 310 people celebrated IDDP at the new Becontree Heath Leisure Centre built by Leadbitter – our major sponsor. The IDDP theme was the Paralympics and guests took part in 6 Paralympic sports: swimming, cycling, boccia, wheelchair basketball, football and table tennis. Guests were also taken on a tour of the sports centre detailing some of the design features including the new changing place provision which helps to provide a much greater level of accessibility to all the disabled community.

Over 100 children took part!

Over 100 children representing 5 schools took part in the celebration with 5 children winning gold medals in our Paralympic challenge. We also announced the winner of our annual IDDP schools competition – a year 6 student from St. Vincents Catholic Primary School who created a journey planner from Barking and Dagenham to the Paralympic Stadium.
