Older People’s Day 2012

This year’s Older People’s Day event on Monday 1 October is about sharing skills and experiences. The event aims to challenge perceptions about older people and showcase talent as part of the national ‘Big Skills Share’

Older People’s Day celebrates the opportunities, achievements and aspirations later life can bring. The Council want to provide a platform to display as much talent from the borough as possible and provide lots of taster sessions so that people can explore new skills.

Previous Older People’s Day celebrations have been a great success with events in Goresbrook and Becontree Health Leisure Centre over the last three years.  This year’s celebrations are being organised across three venues in Barking from 10am – 2.30pm. The Broadway Theatre, Abbey Sports Centre and Barking Learning Centre will be full of things to try; opportunities share skills and learn some new ones.  There are also plans to participate in sports and music activities in Town Square if the weather is good. The below details what is going on at each venue.
