Children’s Centres as Community Hubs

Toby Kinder, Group Manager Children’s Centres LBBD, reported on Children’s Centres.  Discussion covered the development of centres in the Borough, their purpose, and the wide range of activities available in them; information about the types of people using them; detail about what is being done to ensure the meaningful interaction of such people and possible approaches to reaching more people; and suggestions about how children’s centres can be used to build cohesion.

BAME Forum

Rita Chadha-Bolt, Director of RAMFEL, updated the Board on the Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Forum, which has been set up to support and develop the capacity of the BAME third sector and communities to engage in the public and civic life of Barking and Dagenham.  Discussion covered the activities which the Forum is engaged in, the challenges facing it, and the ways in which the Board can support it.

Total Commissioning – Localities Pilot

Edith Galliers, Policy and Partnerships Officer LBBD, updated the Board on the Localities project of the Total Commissioning programme.  Focusing on The Fiddlers, this pilot project will test how partners can work together to test how we can improve how people feel about living and working in that place.

Interim Place Survey results and Target Setting for the Board
